Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

KitnaPrice is a price-comparison service. We show products and prices from online stores in India and send you to the store to buy. We are not a seller: purchases, payments, delivery and returns happen on the store's website under its own terms and privacy policy.

2. Data we collect

Information you give us

• Account details — your name, email address and password when you register (passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash; nobody at KitnaPrice can read them). You can optionally add a phone number and notification preferences.
• Price alerts and wishlist — the products you save, your target prices and how you want to be notified.
• Messages — anything you send us by email.

Information collected when you use the site

• Searches — the text you search for, filters you apply and how many results were shown. If you are signed in, searches are saved to your search history (you can clear it any time from your account).
• Activity — products you view and compare, and when you click a link to a store (which product, which store, the page you clicked from and the time).
• Device and log data — browser type, pages requested and a request identifier, used for security and to fix problems. For store-link clicks we keep only a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, not the address itself.

We do not collect payment card details, government IDs or precise location.

Email verification and spam protection

• When you create an account we email you a 6-digit code and a one-click link to confirm the address is yours. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of the code; it expires after 15 minutes.
• Sign-up, sign-in and password-reset forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA to stop bots. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information (such as device and browser data) and sends it to Google. Its use is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

• Sign-in cookie (strictly necessary) — keeps you signed in securely. It cannot be read by scripts on the page.
• Anonymous session ID — a random ID stored in your browser so we can count searches and store-link clicks and credit affiliate commissions correctly. It does not identify you by name.
• On-device preferences — your recently viewed products and compare list are kept in your browser's local storage and are not sent to us unless needed to show those products.

Google reCAPTCHA may set cookies on our sign-up, sign-in and password-reset pages to tell people and bots apart. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. When you click through to a store, that store and its affiliate network may set their own cookies under their own policies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them, but you will not stay signed in.

4. How we use your data

• To run KitnaPrice: show results, prices and price history, and keep your account, wishlist and alerts.
• To send the price-alert emails you asked for, and essential account emails (such as password resets).
• To understand what people search for so we can improve results, and to detect abuse and keep the service secure.
• To track store-link clicks so that affiliate commissions can be credited and checked.
• To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

We process your data based on your consent (given when you create an account, set an alert or use the site) and for legitimate uses permitted by law. You can withdraw consent at any time (see section 8).

5. AI features

To understand searches like "best laptop for coding under ₹70,000", the text of your search may be sent to an AI service provider. We send only the search text — never your name, email or account details — and the provider may not use it to identify you. Product facts and prices always come from store data, not from AI.

6. Who we share data with

• Service providers who host and run KitnaPrice for us — cloud hosting, database hosting, email delivery and (for search interpretation) an AI provider — under contracts that limit their use of the data.
• Google, for reCAPTCHA spam protection on our forms (see section 2).
• Stores and affiliate networks — when you click a store link you leave KitnaPrice. The link carries our affiliate tracking code; we do not pass your name, email or account details to the store.
• Authorities — when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users and KitnaPrice.

We never sell or rent your personal data.

7. How long we keep data

• Account, wishlist and alerts — until you delete your account.
• Search history (signed in) — until you clear it or delete your account.
• Searches made without an account — kept only with a random session ID, never with your name or email.
• Usage analytics (product views, comparisons, alert and wishlist events) — up to about 13 months.
• Store-link click records — as long as needed to reconcile commissions and meet accounting and tax rules.
• Security logs — for a limited period, unless needed to investigate an incident.

8. Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can:

• ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is used;
• correct or update your data (you can edit your profile in your account);
• ask us to erase your data and delete your account;
• withdraw your consent at any time;
• nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity;
• raise a grievance with us, and then with the Data Protection Board of India.

Email privacy@kitnaprice.com from the address linked to your account. We respond within 30 days.

9. Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, hashed passwords, short-lived sign-in tokens, access controls for our staff and audit logs of admin actions. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting your data we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.

10. Children

KitnaPrice is meant for adults. If you are under 18, please use it only with a parent or guardian, who should create and manage any account. If you believe a child has given us personal data without consent, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Grievance Officer

Email: grievance@kitnaprice.com. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as KitnaPrice changes. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify signed-in users by email or on the site.
